Packing sucks
So here i am just 5 hours before i head down to the airport.
One luggage, one hand carry duffle bag and one handbag. And i'm still not done packing. After stuffing (now try saying this list in one breath man)...
2 pairs of jeans, 2 three-quarts, 3 skirts, 2 belts, i think about 13 tops, 2 tees & 1 bottoms for my PJs, 1 jacket, 3 pairs of socks, 1 pair of shoes & 1 slippers, undergarments, 1 big & 1 small towel, my bag of toiletries, my glasses, a simple 1st aid kit, my hair accessories, traveller's plug, charger & batteries, my bible, some stationery, a journal, a novel (Bill Bryson's "I'm a Stranger Here Myself" to keep me occupied & sane during my long flight there & back), & other miscellaneous stuff like wallet, hp, passport, camera, sunglasses & water bottle...
DID I MISS OUT ANYTHING???
Man... i feel like i'm going to war or something. And this is only stuff for 2.5 weeks. I shudder at the thought of what i'm going to have to bring for 6 months in NZ. I'm beginning to think that i really need to teleport my whole room there somehow someway. Sighhh... Winter clothes = heavy = bulky = see-u-per big luggage is needed = the superlambanana needs to carry elephant-loads of barang-barang = excess luggage *beep beep* = *kaching kaching* money for extra weight please = damn it i'm already broke so what's the freaking problem = .........
And tonight, my home number has become some sort of a hot-line. The phone's been ringing incessantly for the past half hour & the last call from my aunt went something like this:
Aunt: Hello, when you guys leaving for the US?
Me: 6 hours time.
Aunt: Oh your flight is at 4am?
Me: 6am.
Aunt: So what time must you reach the airport?
Me: 3am.
Aunt: Oh... they ask you to go so early ah?
Me: Yes.
Aunt: Hehe, are you all packed already?
Me: No.
Aunt: Better hurry then, you only got a few hours left!
Me: Ok.
Aunt: So are you excited?
Me: Tired.
Aunt: How come?
Me: Packing. Phone ringing non-stop. You the 267th person to call.
Aunt: (LAUGH)
Me: *snort*
Yes. So much for conversation. The beauty of mono-syllabic responses. Yes, the see-u-per lambanana is drained. And she hasn't bathed. Sigh. And she is a tad worried about her NZ airline tickets, cos till now they haven't been bought. woo hoo... i forsee another mad rush when i come back from the US... lalala... *yay* And has she packed for NZ? Noooooo she hasn't. HAH. She is so asking for it eh? 6 months worth of stuff not packed + visa still being processed + air tickets yet to be purchased + need to prepare for convo + want to meet up with friends + need to meet up with family + need to clean up room = mission impossible if this is to be accomplished in 4 days. lalala... Superlambanana is gg a little mad now... must be that disgusting chicken rice she ate for dinner.
Sheesh. I've veered off topic. From packing to chicken rice. Ok. Maybe i shall post another entry just before i leave Singapore... (and for some strange reason, the song "we are Singapore, Singaporeans" starts playing in my head...) :

Let's get trigger happy!
Today marks the day whereby i finally got my digital camera. Yes yes yes, go ahead and laugh... i'm THAT back-dated lah. Pple all using digital SLR already but aiyah, better late than never right?
With the trusty guidance of mr elzap & ah-de 'gong gong', i ended up buying a Canon Powershot A510 - 3.2 mega pixels & 4x optical zoom (haha like the numbers mean anything to a tech-idiot like me man... :P). Doesn't sound very high-end i must admit, but then again, for a person like me to actually master using it, i think i can pat myself on the back already lah... Sheesh, actually i'm not that bimbotic... ok lemme rephrase that... *rewind rewind*
Doesn't sound very high-end i must admit, but then again, it's not the camera that matters more, it's the person and how he/she uses it that is important. hehe... oh well, smirk away guys, wait till you see my photos!
One thing that happened today, which isn't related to my digi-cam at all, is this encounter that i had with a mad-man at the bus stop. Was on the way home & waiting to change buses at HV, when bus #7 stopped... and hopping on one foot, barefooted, was this old man. He was very tanned, looked pretty dirty & unkempt & wore this tattered short beige (or was it dirty white) tee, with a loose 3/4 denim berms which were frayed at its ends. His berms were pretty loose and his briefs could be seen. Pretty obscene.
So there i was sitting at the bench at the bus stop and this lady who was seated beside me immediately got up and walked to the other end of the bus stop. Guess i didn't move, cos i was either 1) blur 2) didn't realize he was gg to sit next to me 3) scared 4) couldn't be bothered 5) a combi of 1-5. Anyway, he hopped and plopped down on the bench that i was seated on started pulling up his tee. Man was i freaked out and i swear i couldn't move. I didn't even dare look at his direction, for fear that he was gonna do something really obscene. Yet, i kept him at the corner of my eye, just in case he came too close for comfort or attacked me or something. He then sat down and started looking around and i was pretty much screaming inside me already by this time, cos all the idiots at the bus stop had siam-ed to the other bench of the bus stop and that freaky old man seemed to look towards my direction pretty menancingly. Suddenly, he started talking to himself, or rather, "somebody" beside him, in a pretty angry & agitated tone... and all this while when he was not looking, i was inching my butt away from him and yes, i was still freaking frozen to the damn bench. What finally got me moving, was when he started to punch his fists into the air & kick his legs up. It was pretty scary man. But although i was pretty scared stiff inside, i somehow managed to cooly stand up and walked to the other side of the bus stop in a rather nonchalant manner. "It's all about the seh" (Wee, 2005).
Well, as i observed him from the safe side of the bus stop, the crazy old man started pulling up his briefs, yes just his briefs, while his berms hung loosely on his hips. Thank goodness i was no longer THERE. Yucks. Hmm, but behind all that, i started thinking... how this crazy old man must have once been sane and "normal", how he must have had dreams, ambitions & desires... perhaps he is the state that he's in now cos of some trauma, some loss or some death of a loved one... he probably doesn't even know what he's doing. Guess my point is, everyone finds it easy to point fingers & criticize or judge based on what they see or know, but look behind the seen and the unseen speaks greater volumes.
Ok. It is late. Haven't been feeling too well. I'm sprouting nonsense again. Good night...

Real
Look at me I'm twenty three
Beautiful a sight to see, tonight
A little dress to draw the press
And I'll be leaving all the rest behind
Well be pleased girl, if this is what you wanted
The whole world is watching you take the stage
What will you say?
Aren't I lovely, and do you want me cause
I am hungry for something that will make me real?
Can you see me and do you love me cause
I am desperately searching for something real
I close my eyes imagine time
Will not forget my sacrifice
I numb the ache and decorate my emptiness
Stand naked in the light
Well be pleased world, if this is what you wanted
This young girl is everything that you made
What will she say?
The world goes home, the lights go down
My lipstick fades away
Aren't I lovely, and do you want me cause
I am hungry for something that will make me real?
Can you see me and do you love me cause
I am desperately searching for something
Real

The perils of dancing
My back kinda aches a bit now. Today, Mr Peter Teo came back from his 2-month USA dance tour trip and as a treat, he gave us the "US special". Basically, we were subjected to very "interesting" exercises that made me shake and shiver so much that i think i could have rated 6.5 at least on the Richter scale.
As a dancer, the weakest points of my body are my back and my shoulder blades. The muscles there are very tight and that's why i can't do back flips or reverse arches, without feeling like i'm gonna snap into two like a kit-kat bar. And those stupid stiff shoulder blades can't seem to fully open... and even though i've been training to "kai jian" (translation: open shoulder), to the extent of asking Simin to help by pulling back my shoulders and using her feet to step on my back, so as to really PULL the damn thing, it still ain't opening too well.
Sigh. Oh well. Today was probably the last dance practice i will have for the rest of this year. I will TRY to keep stretching while overseas whenever i can...

A mad rush
I feel pretty overwhelmed with the amount of things i gotta do to prepare for my trip to the US and then to NZ. Paperwork and preparing all the documents & visa is such a turn-off already, with the 101 declarations that are needed and all. The next whammy is the packing. HAH. US is summer. NZ is winter. Although US is not so much of a problem, since i'm only there for 2 weeks, i'm pretty concerned about NZ... it's cold for one, and two, i'll be there for half a year, so i'm pretty much stuck with whatever i bring there with me. I'm beginning to think i need to teleport my whole room there...
And if paperwork and packing isn't enough... i still need to prepare myself mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Seriously speaking, i think i will somewhat "die" in NZ. From the cold, the culture shock, the whole new environment i'm thrown into, the regimental schedule of school once again and the isolation from pple i know back home. Eeks... i'm scared and nervous... what if i don't fit in? I think i'll probably cry everyday from being too homesick for at least the 1st 2 weeks.
Sigh. It's such a mad rush. I think that if i can, i would prefer to step out of the camp in Malaysia, so i can buy myself a little more time to do a few more things before i'm gone. And also a few more days to breathe easier.
HELP.

I miss you already
Seems as if 17th June will be the last day i'll be in Singapore. 18th onwards i'm as good as gone... gone for a youth camp in Kota Tinggi till the 21st, then off to the US on 23rd at an unearthly hour at 6am. Guess nobody will be there to send me off at 5am plus eh? heh.
Though i'll be back on the 10th July, which in actual fact is 0040hrs on the 11th, it seems that my nomadic lifestyle has yet to come to an end... i believe my study in New Zealand will materialize soon and that means i'm off again, perhaps on the 15-16th of July... all the way to end of Dec. I'm looking forward to the change, yet i'm nervous, fearful and somewhat afraid of what i might encounter or experience there. Never been overseas for such a long period of time, plus being away from home, my comfort zone, my messy room which is in a perpetual war-like zone state, my computer & msn, my radio, my bed, argh the list goes on... but i guess that's the whole point of living overseas... you have to wean yourself off such conveniences and taken-for-granted aspects in your life to "grow up" and be more independent i suppose.
I'll probably miss the food as well. The weather? Hmm... well guess no sun-tanning for the next 6 months, so i'll be back to being a white chicken. Sheesh. Perhaps i'll miss the hang-out places that i go to... and i know i'll definitely miss speaking Singlish... haha, i mean, where else can u talk cock sing song like in Singapore? I must say that the only thing that is uniquely Singapore is Singlish. Everything else is just bull.
Guess most importantly, i'll miss family and friends. Sigh... yup, will miss you all. Heh, i make it sound like i'm going away for good. But hey, just what IF i stay on longer than 6 months right? I mean, the whole course is actually 2 years... Btw, for the uninformed, it's a Full Time Training School that i'm going to. To study and be equipped with God's word and learn courses in language, character, etc. It's something that i consecrated to go 5 years ago and i am pretty sure that it's the time to go now.
Just can't believe that from now till the 18th, i've got so much to do, but yet i don't seem to be doing anything. Argh. Need to pack, plan for the USA trip itinerary, prepare for the camp, settle the NZ school paperwork and visa and meet up with friends! Yup will miss you all back home... man i'm getting soppy and mushy like a soap opera...
Will try to keep this blog alive in the meantime. And lastly, in an attempt to redeem myself, i shall leave you with a rather profound quote... heh. As Master Yoda says, "Train yourself to let go of the things which you fear to lose most"... May the force be with us all... :)

A nomad's life
Sarwadee-kar ladies & gentleman...
ah yes, back from the city that sleeps only at 2am (or some might beg to differ and say that it's a city that never sleeps) - Bangkok. For those who just tuned in, i went for a trip to Koh-Chang & BKK for the past week & i must say that Koh-Chang was much more enjoyable.
Koh-Chang - 5 hours bus ride from BKK - an island about 2/3 the size of Singapore and i bet in just a decade's time, it will be on the yellow brick road to become over-run by tourists & being polluted like all other islands in the gulf. But for now, it's still nice & things are still relatively "untouched"... Stayed in a very nice hotel called "Cookies Hotel" - 800 baht per night only. Only thing is that the TV could only receive BBC news, ESPN sports & Star Movies (at selected times) haha. Oh well. I wasn't there to watch TV anyway.
The beach of cos was the highlight. Imagine nice clean sand littered with seashells extending gently to the water for at least a metre or two... and then when u reach the clean cool water, you can walk all the way into the sea for at least another 2 metres, while the water is still below your waist level... then picture the sea waves crashing towards shore... sounds scary but it's actually pretty thrilling to just dive and jump against the huge waves and to feel yourself momentarily flying up in the water... all this under nice sunny weather with a cool sea breeze... :) We should and could have stayed longer at Koh-Chang, if not for a certain misfortunate incident, which will be revealed in another entry... But i must say the pineapple juice they have there is really nice... cool & refreshing, not like the sucky ones in Singapore that taste dry or bite your tongue.
Booked a mini-van for just our gang to bring us back to BKK from Koh-Chang for 600 baht. Traveled at an average speed of 120km/hour. Yee-yup, the driver was see-u-per (translation: super) stylo lah! "It's all about the sei" (as Wesley puts it) and i believe that either the driver had no sense of speed, or he just is damn skillful. Overtaking and swerving from one lane to another at the speed of 100-110km/hour, at a distance of perhaps a couple of inches away from the next vehicle, must be one of the test exercises that Thai drivers have to learn or something man. The way he did it was effortless and thoughout the thrill ride, his face was expressionless, like *yawn*... except for the couple of times when he cheekily smirked at us when we all squealed in excitement and fright when he did one of those hair-raising swerves. He's cool. I swear for that journey, i had a crush on him cos he wasn't too bad looking too haha :P
And wad about BKK? Boring. Besides eating and shopping, there's really nothing much to do. Don't think i'll go back there for some time... but i know it really made me appreciate how clean & orderly Singapore is. BKK really is a mess. But i must say the fresh fruits that the street vendors sell are oh-so-heavenly... it's not only dirt cheap, it's fresh, and it's a big portion. I wish i could have some more of that yummy guava... *ahhhh*
So what do i miss most about Thailand? Actually nothing. Except for the beach, the fresh fruits, the 120 baht (about Sing 5 bucks) movie ticket prices, the tuk-tuks & the Thai massage.
Next stop: Kota Tinggi (once again) on 18-21st June... to help out with a youth camp. What can i say? It's a nomad's life after all...
