Old

Popped down to town after my 1st paper. Needed to just unwind, after being cooped up in the lab & in sch for the past week. It's nice to go to town alone sometimes. Shopped a bit & walked a lot. Got stopped by this girl who was doing some survey for her church, after which she said a short prayer for me right in the middle of Orchard Road. Passed by Orchard Cineleisure & decided to just go in & take a look. Bad thing to do.

I feel old.

The pple there, the shops, the whole environment just seemed too kiddy, too cutesy, too... what's that word... teenager-ish. Oh man. And you know you're no longer an adolescent when you start looking at clothes that you once thought only adults or your mum would wear, or clothes that seem to be more "proper" and formal. I just prefer more classy clothes now. Hmm, not that i mind the occasional pink bubblegum coloured singlet or a funky tee, but i just think fashion must be of a certain class, a certain taste lah. Know what i mean? So many clothes out that are like trash man. Disgusting. And some are just plain 'Obiang'. So. I think i am "maturing" in taste somewhat. Or perhaps it's just Orchard Cineleisure.

But then, as i walked towards my bus-stop, i passed by this group of girls. Young things they were, about 13-14 years i think. Talking, or rather, squeaking away in really cutesy, high-pitched voices. Topic of discussion: Nice or not? My shirt & shorts? *pose* omg, my cute shirt has a water stain... Michelle!!! (or wadever her friend's name was) you split water on my shirt! *giggles all around*

Sheesh. I found myself thinking how youngsters nowadays have such superficial ways of spending their time. How they are wasting their time & how "lucky" they are to have the luxury to spend away their parent's money like water. Tsk tsk. Was i like that before? Endulging in such youthful pursuits? I believe everyone does so, though to different degrees. But definitely nothing like what you see today. It's atrocious i tell you. Just go down to town on a Saturday afternoon. It's infested with the future spoilt brats & princesses of Singapore. Yes. I think i'm getting old...

Like that wasn't enough. As i journeyed home on the bus, this couple boarded the bus at one of the stops. The girl was from my alma mater - she wore a Crez Guides windbreaker - and the guy was a SJI boy. Ah yes. Young puppy love. Once again, my voyeuring instincts kicked in. And i watched. Muahahaha. They talked, though their eyes seemed to dart away each time the other party looked at the other in the eyes. Those bashful smiles & quick side glances at the other party... the stupid act-cute face the boy was giving the girl. The body language showing the girl's consciousness of herself, as she kept touching the sides of her hair. Everything was so sweet & pure & clean. Such is the stuff of young love. And once again, i speak as though i were 54 years old. And once again, i found myself thinking: Young love starts out sweet & nice of cos, but wait till you really go through stuff, then you'll find out how tough it gets. Don't get yourself involved so soon. It really won't last. You young kids don't know what is love. Too naive, too naive *shakes head* And all the while, the stupid teeny-bopping music playing on my radio subsided into a distant drumming sound.

Stopped at HV & decided to get something to make me feel happy. Decided on BK's onion rings, but walked to the Windmill shopping centre just to take a look first. Saw Chen Liping & Rayson Tan with their kid at the handphone shop there. Unlike celebrities elsewhere, Singaporean artistes just don't bother really much to keep up their star image while they are out. They looked very lok-kok. But then again, maybe it's just them. Perhaps they're still broke after the Slim 21 court case. Maybe they just don't bother.

Got my onion rings and waited like a million years for the stupid bus to come, while my back ached from the weight of my bag & my eyes were drying up from fatigue & the dust. Yes. Old. Now having a slight headache, dunno why. Ahh... just cracked my back. Ok. If i go on any longer, i really would be rambling like an old woman already.

Think i shall go take out my dentures now & rub oils on my aching joints.

Comments:
hahah well you are not exactly OLD yet. cos you just started this feeling of old. after a while you won't care what these kids do cos you have accepted the fact that they are just like that. and slowly you will also stop comparing cos you know it's no point.

I find that when you're alone, you can spot many pple walking down Orchard Road.

I, for one, NEVER noticed any celebrities or even old school classmates.. cos busy staring at someone else? u know what i mean... *blush

anyway, I'm all for classy dresses! I guess I'm OLD long ago, even though I'm younger than u, haha YES i'm youngerrrr. t-shirts don't work for me, i'll be in a t-shirt or giordano at home or only to the market downstairs...

so PLEASE don't say classy wear is OLD. I prefer to call it: Good taste!
