Chance or Choice
I came across something which sparked off this train of thought in my semi-working brain...
In life, we meet many people & the paths of ours and others criss-cross in such random fashion & complex patterns, that very often, the people we meet, could be said to be of a chance. Take for example, if you decide to go to town at 2pm, taking the bus there and stop at Paragon, the course of events will differ if you decide to stop at Plaza Singapura instead. Then again, it will differ again in another degree if you decided to take the train there. What if you decided to go to town at night instead? So many different permutuations of what each step you can take will affect the course of events & people you meet. Still follow?
So, enough of the permutation & combinations. You meet somebody. And remember, this is due to the probability as mentioned above. Then again, the other person's choice of steps will also affect his/her course of actions. Wow. Just think of the odds of meeting somebody! So what if you go to town at 2pm? But the other person decides to stay home or go to the beach instead? But... if he/she decides to go to town, you might just meet that person. Are you still following?
The point is, i guess as i'm explaining this to myself, i realise that perhaps meeting someone is not a matter of chance, or statistical probability after all. Perhaps there is a reason for everything that happens. I would like to believe that it's what God has planned for me. So, what about the part on choice? Yes, that is the tricky part. Where free will is granted to us to choose (although not wisely at all times), what we want.
So you meet somebody, by random or chance (whichever convinces you more) and the next thing is, do you choose to associate with that person or not? Befriend, like, dislike, avoid, love, hate, acknowledge. Again, what do you choose to do? And once again, what you choose to do will lead to a whole new course of consequent events, actions & other people that you meet. And the cycle goes on...
Do you think you have made the right/wrong choices in life? I mean, how would you know right? You won't. Perhaps that's what keeps us all moving on.

haha. wow even my thoughts fit the "tragic" genre. now that's tragic... imagine what kind of thoughts i can generate if my brain were fully working.

elzap, that quote is very YOU... but a great quote nonetheless! It takes real courage to dream and execute that dream in the choices that you make in life. A life of compromises? That is tragic indeed. Haha, I think it is not about taking a BIG leap of faith to achieve one's dream. The leap of faith was already achieved through the act of conceiving the dream, what follows are little sure and steady steps to realize it. As my dear sup likes to say after all his metaphorical ramblings, Gotcha? =) - meganerd

I didn't read this blog in detail.. fell asleep about the 2nd paragraph. Maybe tragic does not work for me...
Remember, when you pass through Heaven's Door, the front of it says "Welcome My children" (or something like that) and the back of it says "You were chosen before time began".
Nothing is by chance, there's a plan for all of us! Life is not meaningless and random!!!
